Briefly about Cultivation Chat Group Manga.
One day Sun Shuhan happened to join a group of fans obsessed with the Xianxia genre, who even addressed each other as “followers of Taoism. Most of them had strange nicknames like Sect Master, Cave Master, Spirit Master, etc. Even the dog that ran away from the Chief Master of this chat room was called the Great Demon Dog. The weirdos spent all day discussing the creation of magic pills, their knowledge of martial arts, and more. And one day Sun Shuhan discovers: every member of this group chat room can actually move mountains, drain seas, and live for over a thousand years! In an instant, Sun Shuhan’s view of the world changes…
In short, it’s a great comedy that will strike a chord with anyone who has read a single work about Chinese cultivators. Now a little context. I’ve been hooked on Chinese novels about cultivators lately, with their endless pumping and super imbued abilities. And for me, I found this manga hilarious. Of course, I understand that this piece won’t appeal to everyone. If you’re not a fan of Chinese manga or the word “cultivation” doesn’t mean anything to you, move on, you won’t lose anything. It’s a masterpiece, a couple of original ideas are there, which is pleasantly surprising.
1) Comedy. Perhaps the author wanted to write a normal story about a talented and powerful cultivator, and this is evident in the plot, but such a story would have been too trite. But the comedic moments are what make this manga an invaluable piece in my collection. Cultivators chatting about their accomplishments and recipes, using memes, and passing on new techniques on a flash drive is a masterpiece.
2) Character Names. For me, names in Chinese works are the sore spot. While I’ve learned to distinguish Japanese names, Chinese names are just awful. In this same manga, the author uses Taoist names like Master of Medicine or Lord of the Yellow Mountain. And you don’t have to guess who it is, it’s pretty clear.
3) The main character is pretty realistic. He’s not too naive, moderately smart, suspicious, and has good willpower. His only imbo skill is his luck, but the manga characters themselves talk about that as well, so it’s quite justified. It’s nice to read a manga without the occasional facepalm.
